Culinary Retail Associate

Position Summary

The Culinary Retail Associate at Mixed Pantry is integral to providing excellent customer service and expert knowledge on Asian culinary cultures. This role is essential for maintaining daily operations, enhancing customer experiences, and ensuring the store's smooth operation in various situations. As our business grows, there will be opportunities for professional development and expanded responsibilities for dedicated team members.

Duties & Accountabilities

Culinary Retail Associates are responsible for:

  • Customer Engagement: Greeting customers warmly, offering tastings and detailed product information, and completing sales transactions.
  • General Store Operation: Comfortable with the store opening and closing procedures, maintaining cleanliness, organization, and stocking of the store. Managing inventory and creatively setting up displays.
  • Safety and Security: Managing interactions with diverse populations professionally, maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all customers.
  • Product Knowledge: Developing a thorough understanding of the store's offerings to provide educational sessions and accurate recommendations, almost as if you are a personal shopper for your customers. 
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborating with the team to share knowledge, manage tasks, and support store events focused on community engagement.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 pounds, and perform various cleaning and stocking duties
  • Maintain an active Washington State Food Handler’s Permit
  • Must have strong knowledge of at least one Asian culinary culture; broader culinary knowledge is advantageous
  • 6+ month of experience in food retail, service, or related fields is strongly preferred
  • Able to access apps via phone or computer to view work schedules, communications, and policies
  • Fully vaccinated against Covid-19
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, proactive in maintaining store operations.
  • Comfortable working occasional evening shifts and handling challenging situations with tact and professionalism
  • Strong sense of initiative and common sense to identify and tackle tasks without being told, from cleaning and organizing to proposing new ideas for the business.


Approximately 10 hours per week to start, primarily on weekends. Hours will increase over time.
